NDPS quantity calculator

Pick the substance, enter the weight seized, and see whether it is small, intermediate or commercial quantity under the Central Government notification S.O. 1055(E) of 19 October 2001 (as amended), the clause of the punishing section it attracts, and whether the s. 37 bar on bail applies.

1. The substance

328 of 328 entries. Small / commercial shown on the right. Pick one substance; pick more than one only for a mixture of drugs in the Table (serial 239).

2. Weight seized

The whole weight of the mixture or preparation, neutral substance included — not the pure drug content (Note 4 to the notification; Hira Singh v. Union of India, 2020).

Result

Pick a substance and enter the weight.

Verify against the notification and the Act. The weight, the identity of the substance and whether the seized material is a mixture are for the court on the evidence (FSL report).
What the table contains. Serials 1–238: S.O. 1055(E) of 19-10-2001 (Central Bureau of Narcotics copy). Serials 238A–238ZZZL: every amendment listed in the Note to S.O. 1731(E) of 16-4-2025 — S.O. 1430(E) (2011), 375(E) (2015), 2375(E) (2016), 1384(E) (2017), 822(E) and 1762(E) (2018), 1351(E) (2019), 1276(E) (2021), 4429(E) and 5320(E) (2022), 579(E) (2024) and 1731(E) (2025) — each read from the Gazette of India. Note 4 (the notification of 18-11-2009 on mixtures) is quoted below. We searched the e-Gazette (egazette.gov.in) notification by notification from March 2021 to 30 September 2026 and found no amendment of S.O. 1055(E) after S.O. 1731(E) of 16 April 2025. A later amendment would not be in this table: if the substance is not listed, check the Gazette.
Serial 111(“Preparations made from the extract of tincture of Indian Hemp”): the Act treats cannabis (s. 2(iii), punished under s. 20) and “medicinal cannabis, that is, any extract or tincture of cannabis” (s. 2(xii)) — a manufactured drug under s. 2(xi) punished under s. 21 — differently. Which one a seized preparation is depends on the evidence, so the calculator shows the clause under both.
Note 4 to S.O. 1055(E), inserted by the notification of 18-11-2009 (as quoted by the Supreme Court)
"The quantities shown in column 5 and 6 of the Table relating to the respective drugs shown in column 2 shall apply to the entire mixture or any solution or any one or more narcotic drugs or psychotropic substance of the particular drug in dosage form or isomers, esters, ethers and salts or these drugs, including salts or esters, ethers and isomers, wherever existence of such substance is possible and not just its pure drug content."
